Eliza Wangerin
I am a Filipina Jungian Analyst living in Chicago.
I was born and grew up on an island in the Philippines surrounded by the Visayan and Sulu seas. In the background is Mt Kanlaon, a mountain believed to be sacred to the Babaylans (shamans). These are my roots. I speak Ilonggo and Tagalog.
I left the Philippines soon after I finished university. I traveled and lived in many different countries, Asia, Africa and Europe, before coming to live permanently in the U.S. Because of this I have become sensitive to different cultures, and pay close attention to a person’s heritage.
I have always been curious, often wondering what is behind a situation, a person, an object. So I pursued Psychology. I graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City, Philippines; and an MA in Community Counseling from Argosy University, Chicago, USA. But it took many years of meandering, making wrong turns, and making mistakes before I finally made the journey to Zurich and train to become a Jungian Analyst. I have a diploma in Jungian Analytical Psychology from the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP), Zurich, Switzerland.
Before training in Jungian Analytical Psychology I lived my artist life, painting (oils, gouache, oil pastels) drawing, monotypes, writing creative non-fiction essays, and poetry. I still do some of these but not as much as I used to. I mostly paint or draw images from my dreams. My ritual is writing my dreams down daily, exploring the symbols and feelings contained in them, listening to what psyche says. From time to time I conduct dream group, fairy tale interpretation groups and lectures.
I am licensed in Illinois (LCPC 180010832), and have my private practice in Chicago. I see clients via zoom and in person.
